Happy New Year!
I miss my blog, so one of my New Year's resolutions is to post more often. The last couple of months have been so hectic, but were also great. This year I hope to find more rythm in my work, so I will have more time for doing other nice things.

Starting from tomorrow lovely sisters Bep and Siska will have their first pop-up store in Antwerp for three days.

They will sell work from young designers from Belgium and the Netherlands.

Finally everything is settling down. I like being in the shop, it's so nice to meet people and hear comments.

At the beginning of this year Bonne and I had to close studio BonBon. But since a month Bonne started a collaboration with another shop. I will be selling my work there as well and will be in the shop for 2 days a week. Every Friday + one week on Saturday and the other week on Thursday.

Been absent for a while on this blog. The fair took a lot of time. It was nice to share the stand with Eva, Sophie, Neeltje and Myriam. It was a good experience, met a lot of nice people. (especially other designers, like Hester Zagt, Manon Garritsen and Zward)
The pictures turned out to be a bit blurry, so will show you only this impression.

After the fair I started immediately with a new project, will tell you about it in the next post.

Been quite busy lately with preparations for the fair Meesterlijk. It starts this Friday and can be visited till Sunday 2 October. (the Woonbeurs ("furniture" fair) is presented at the same time, and has the same entrance + ticket)
I'm very curious how it will be. Never had a stand at a fair before.
I'll be sharing a stand with Eva Schreuder, Sophie Duran and Zigt Sieraden.

Last weekend Sophie took me to Belgium as a gift for my birthday (last April). We went to Dranouter, to the folk festival. It's such a great festival, nice people, beautiful surroundings and good music. Eight years ago we went for the first time and this was the second time. The festival got bigger in the meantime, but is still a good size. On Saturday the weather wasn't so good, but the artists play in a big tent, so we could listen dry and warm. On Sunday we went to Watou. Sophie went there before to visit an "art festival" and wanted to show this little village to me. The art festival was there again as well. On very nice locations, such as old houses and farms, work from artists, inspired by poems was shown. Very worthwhile to visit.

These last days I helped Frank and his team making a new set. It will be used for a Dutch magazine. If it's published I'll show you.

We covered a wall and a bookshelf with paper. The result is always so nice. The wallpaper glue adds a nice touch to the paper and changes the colour slightly.

The paper and the soft colours made the whole room feel very calm. Wonderful to work in on a hot day like yesterday.

When I saw these clogs at kermisblauw I got so happy, especially after reading the story behind them. Alice Bernardo documents traditional and semi-industrial techniques in Portugal. These clogs were made by Mr. José Leite. He is 85 years old and still makes shoes.
They are for sale at the website from Alice.
I ordered a pair some time ago and they arrived rather quick in a nice package.
They are a little bit too big for me (my own fault, I'm always doubting which size to order online) but I love them nevertheless. They got a nice spot on the floor in my living room.
Besides being shoes they are a wonderful object made with a lot of dedication.

(we made this striped wallpaper from paper which is normally used to cover books. The colours looked wonderful, much more intense than if we had used paint.)

I wrote about Op Voorraad in a previous post. The Lloyd Hotel is a very nice place, after visiting Op Voorraad you can have something to drink or eat inside the Lloyd or on the terrace outside.

Last Friday we went to the opening of the temporary shop/ showroom from IJM Colour-Spots in the Hartenstraat (one of the nine streets) in Amsterdam. It was a wonderful evening, nice people and good food (from Marlein). The building is amazing, the shop is downstairs, but if you walk to the back a staircase leads you to many more rooms, even an attic (not open to public). I was amazed the first time I was there. It felt a little bit like a treasury box, behind each door there was another room. For the opening IJM decorated each room, showing the different colours and combinations of paint.

In Detroit there are a lot estate sales, often from people who can't afford their houses anymore. I went together with Iris to an estate sale from an old lady that passed away. (I think at the age of 85) It was strange to be able to see and buy everything in the house, but it was good to know it wasn't the house of somebody who had to sell everything involuntary. I think that would have felt more awkward. The house looked very messy, but that was mainly because the people who organised this sale took everything out of the cupboards. The owner used to work as an archivist. She was very tidy. I found two wooden handmade boats with handwritten stickers when they were made. I also found an old piece of lace with several notes attached to it; where the lace came from, where it was used for later and even what a family member said about it. I think this gives you an idea how organised she was. The house itself was quite old to Detroit standards. I think it hadn't changed all these years, even in the rooms from her sons you could still feel how it must have looked in their youth.

Visiting CSS ( an artschool) for a short introduction to iron pouring. The students from Cranbrook were invited to work with this technique. It sounded very nice, but I think it is also quite tough work to do.

Before I went on a short holiday to Detroit I received this wonderful package from Christine.

She wrote me an e-mail sometime ago, we met in Rotterdam at the Swanmarket and stayed in touch since.

Christine/ twinklebird has a small studio in Culemborg. She makes very delicate jewelry.

It's all made by hand from silver or gold. I think it's pretty amazing she made the hare (and other animals) by hand out of wax. It's something I couldn't do myself, it's very precise work and beautifully done.

I'm very happy we exchanged jewelry. I got this lovely ring with a hare. Love wearing this ring. Here you can see what she got from me.

Last Sunday Eva and I had a stand at Swanmarket. It was a very, very cold day, but the sun was shining and we enjoyed talking to friends visiting us. I also met Lenneke for the first time. I've been following her blog for a while now and we had e-mail contact. It was very nice to meet her in real. We swapped jewelry. You can see on her blog what she got from me, and I got this beautiful necklace. She will make a project out of exchanging, like the idea.

I also met Christine from Twinklebird. She wrote me an e-mail sometime ago and since then we stayed in touch. I'll write about her work soon, it's very special.

Duran/ Vanderpoort organised a new exhibition. I will be showing and selling necklaces and
bracelets.

DURAN//VANDERPOORT PRESENT ‘HOW IT’S MADE, AND WHY IT’S SO FUCKING EXPENSIVE’

Sometimes people wonder why designer products are ‘so expensive’. But not everybody realizes that in order to get to a good product, the designer often took a long, time consuming , and sometimes expensive path before arriving at the final product. Think about materials costs, various experiments, prototyping etc.
This exhibition at the renowned Dek22 gallery space in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, will highlight the works of fifteen artists and designers, with a heavy focus on the process they went through. By showing the steps from initial idea to final product, the public will not only gain an insight in the artistic process behind the design, but it will also come to appreciate the poetic side of this process. Learning about the failures, the dead ends, and the u-turns which preceded most successful designs, will add depth and value to the works on view.

A shop will be open during the exhibition, where the works of the represented artists are for sale. These works are often hand-crafted by the designers and are one-offs or limited editions. Most of the exhibited works are available for sale as well.

Yesterday we went to the opening of a new kids store in Osdorp, Amsterdam: Milk + Lemonade.
Frank and his team from IJM made and designed the entire interior. The result is a wonderful shop with beautiful colours, displays and surprises.
Very worthwhile visiting when you live in Amsterdam. It's an IJM world.

(I didn't participate in this project, only made some garlands, not shown on the pictures.)

Bye Studio BonBon !
Bonne and I decided to close the shop last weekend. We could have stayed until the end of February, but because we are both very busy making new plans, we felt it was better to stop now.
It were 2 amazing years, I will miss Bonne. It was so nice to share a shop and studio with her. It helped me to develop my style and work. I'm also going to miss the talks with customers.

Bonne is moving to a new atelier soon, and I have been working at my new studio since the beginning of January. (at IJM)

Last week I've been working on garlands and "necklaces" for IJM.
IJM showed a new collection of paint at the children's trade fair De kleine fabriek in Amsterdam.
I painted paper with paint from the collection, only the pink and the bright red were already like that. Shown here is my temporary work space.

Last week I moved to my new atelier: a work space at studio IJM. I can use a very nice space, some kind of attic. I'll show you some pictures once I'm finished giving all my materials and equipment a good place.
I will be working there on my own jewelry, but will also do work for Frank.
On these pictures you can see some sketches for garlands (for a magazine) and paper "jewelry" that will be used for a fair next week.
I made myself a temporary workspace in the studio. When I'm working for studio IJM, I always like to be in the studio itself, so I can be surrounded with colours and materials. When I work on my jewelry I will be working in my own studio at the "attic".

Bonne and I will close our shop end of February, until then I'll only be working there on Sundays. Bonne will be there mainly on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
It's a pity we have to leave, but we're also both excited about what will come next.

Somehow I forgot about these pictures. In October my boyfriend and I went to visit his two aunts, sisters from his mother. H. lives with her husband in Kibbelveen, in an old farm, where she and her sisters grew up. They breed horses.
Sister A. lives with her husband on an old farm in Nieuw- Zwinderen, that belonged to his family. It was a very nice day. We see them during birthdays, but we very much enjoyed seeing them at their own houses. These farms have a lot of charm. I took many pictures. The weather wasn't that great, lots of rain, so some pictures turned out a bit too dark. But I also like that, makes it even more nostalgic. In the last picture you see some of the trophees their horses won, the cupboard with all the cups was too blurry to show.
